The 2026–27 NHL season

  • The regular season started September 29, 2026 and runs through April 10, 2027, the first 84-game schedule.
  • PikSheet's NHL weeks run Monday to Sunday. A week's slate can be added to or swapped until its first slate game starts.
  • NHL Slate Pick'em covers the regular season only.

What PikSheet handles

  • Scores come from the NHL's public data feed. Picks are graded straight up as soon as a game goes final: overtime and shootout wins count like regulation, and there are no pushes.
  • Picks lock by week, by day or game by game.
  • Optional weekly tiebreaker: total shots on goal in the week's latest-starting slate game.
  • Commissioners can pick for an entry, and after lock the Field view shows everyone's picks.

NHL pool questions

How does an NHL pick'em pool work?+

Each week the commissioner chooses the slate of NHL games that count and sets N, the number of picks. Members pick N winners straight up. In a ranked pool each pick also gets a confidence value from 1 to N and a correct pick scores its value; otherwise each correct pick is worth one point.

Is an NHL pick'em pool the same as a hockey pool?+

Not quite. Many hockey pools are player-points drafts, where you pick skaters and score their goals and assists. NHL Slate Pick'em is a game-picking pool: you pick which team wins. PikSheet doesn't offer a player-points hockey pool.

Are there spreads or puck lines?+

No. NHL Slate Pick'em is straight up only: pick the team that wins the game.

How do overtime and shootouts count?+

A win is a win. Overtime and shootout victories count exactly like regulation wins, and there are no ties or pushes.
